A. W. Tozer wrote in his famous book, The Knowledge of the Holy One, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” Tozer is right on the money with his words! What we think about God is of the most importance because our perception of God affects our life of faith. In other words, God’s attributes are the greatest support for our fickle faith.
Our laws change by the year! The economy changes by the day! Our feelings change on the hour! The Stock Market changes by the second, but God never changes – He is faithfully consistent!
According to Tozer an attribute of God is, “…whatever may be correctly ascribed to God…it is whatever God has in any way revealed as being true of Himself.”
All of God’s works are consistent with all of His attributes. Not one of His attributes will ever contradict His nature. Think of it this way, every attribute of God harmonizes perfectly with all His other attributes to give us certainty when it comes to His power and purpose in all His creation and in all our lives.
There are several ways to best gain an accurate perception of God. And one is through the lens of Scripture. The Bible is filled with faithful insights to build our faith in God. We must depend on its truth to drive our senses and feelings rather than the circumstances around us! It is a sure word from God to us!
If you will read the Bible more this year, I can guarantee you that your life will be more peaceful and powerful no matter what this new year brings.
Another way to gain an accurate perception of God is through the love of our Savior. His love for us was on full display when He willingly went to the cross. His investment in our lives is better than any investment money can give us. He poured out His heart and poured out His healing so we could be set free from all the entanglements in this life.
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering,
for He who promised is faithful."
The brother of Jesus wrote, “There is not even a shadow of a change in God” (James1:17). What a refreshing word for us as we journey into this new year! While we don’t know what will come our way in 2018, one thing every believer should be absolutely sure of – God is faithful, God is consistently faithful! What a God we get to put our faith in! I like what Pastor Jeremy posted on the youth Facebook page this week, “Faith tells me no matter what lies ahead of me, God is already there.”
Happy New Year,
