This generation of teenagers, and the ones following on their heels, is coming of age in a culture that is less religious than any previous generation in America. While this presents hard challenges, it also presents an incredibly awesome opportunity. Those teenagers who are Christians find themselves in a great position to impact the world around them as they live the gospel out in love.
And yet, many Christian teenagers struggle to talk to others about the foundational truths of their faith. A decade ago the National Study of Youth and Religion (still the most wide-sweeping study ever done on religion and teenagers) revealed that most American teenagers are extremely inarticulate about their faith, and that most teenagers in our youth ministries struggle to put the essentials of Christianity into words. I firmly believe that many of today’s youth have a faith that makes a difference in their lives, but they have a hard time explaining why.
But what a joy, last Sunday, to see some of our youth share their experiences with God and their personal stories of faith. I was deeply moved by their dedication, creativity and transparency. How refreshing it all was, including them leading us in beautiful worship to God. Please reach out to them on Sunday and encourage them to keep sharing their faith!
I believe that the youth pastors of today have some of the hardest ministries in the kingdom of God! Oh how they need to be supported in prayer and with hands on involvement in their youth ministries.
Thank you Pastor Jeremy for your dedication and determination regarding our youth’s growing faith. We are blessed with your talent and gifting!
The younger generation of our day is in full view of Satan and he’s got a huge red bull's eye on them. He wants to remove the power of Christ and the purpose of Christianity in their lives! Our teens need to be covered with our prayers of protection and discernment. We must have a strong and vibrant faith tucked securely in the hearts of teenagers all across this country for the sake of our future!
I love the words and wisdom that king David gives in Psalm 8:2 “Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.”
This verse is a promise to a nation that their youth can build strong faith and strong convictions in order to impact the spiritual climate and to confront the spiritual strongholds that exist in their country. And you know, I believe we witnessed this verse in action Sunday with our youth boldly declaring their faith in Christ. In the words of Franklin Graham spoken at a youth conference recently, “Dare to be a Daniel and change our country for the sake of Christ and His cross.”
